ISPI SoCal Presents a Diversity Fireside Chat with

Tony Nguyen, Founder & Executive Director at AYLX - American Young Leader Exchange

In this ISPI SoCal Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility interview, you will meet Tony Nguyen, Executive Director of AYLX. AYLX seeks to develop young leaders through sustained immersion in and exploration of American communities beyond their hometowns.

Session Description:

Many people aspire to be Cross-Cultural Leaders. But what does that actually look like? How does one develop cross-cultural skills? And how do programs like AYLX prepare students to stand out among a sea of job and college applicants?

Participants in this session will learn about:

  • Cultural hybrids
  • Cross-cultural leadership
  • Immersive experiential learning
  • Social-emotional tools
  • A veterans journey to leadership development

About the Speaker:

Tony Nguyen, MBA, is the founder of the American Young Leader Exchange, which seeks to develop young leaders through domestic cultural exchange. AYLX empowers American teens to become cultural ambassadors. Youths 14-18 years old pair-up 1-to-1 to live with each other's families to explore America's cultural diversity through the eyes of another American family. AYLX is a scholarship program that covers travel and workshop expenses in the service of expanding cultural competency among our future workforce.

As Tony says, "We each live in our own little worlds. We move to places where we feel that we belong. We spend time with folks who dress like us, think like us, and laugh at our jokes. We consume personalized digital and social media that affirm our points of view and allow us to see ourselves the way we want to see ourselves. Over time we encase ourselves into multilayered echo chambers. How much do we really understand beyond our silos?”
