Learn how Ron Christie, Manager of Gas Operations Training at Southern California Gas Company, and Thom Pratt and Troy Segale of CraneMorley, transformed training at SCG – moving from an instructor-led to a blended eLearning / ILT model in phase one, pushing the knowledge-based activities out to their bases, increasing training center capacity. They are reengineering delivery to prescriptive learning paths involving using X-Reality and Augmented Reality.

    About the Speakers

    Ron Christie

    William Cameron “Ron” Christie is Manager of Gas Operations Training at Southern California Gas Company. Ron has 44 years’ experience in technical training and education. He worked 20 years in the aerospace and automotive industries developing multimedia and computer-based training systems for the operation and maintenance of a variety of anti-aircraft weapon systems. Ron was the Lead Instructional Designer on the B2 (Stealth) Bomber at Northrop as well as a Training Project Manager/In-dealership Training Administrator for American Honda. In addition to his industry experience, Ron was a Dean in three California Community Colleges, managing career and technical education programs. He taught classes in Instructional Design and Corporate Training and development for 10 years as an adjunct instructor at California State University Long Beach. Prior to joining SoCal Gas, Ron was the Manager of Training and Organizational Development at the University of California, Riverside. Ron Holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Studies and master’s degree in Instructional Technology.

    Thom Pratt

    As President of CraneMorley, Thom leads a highly-talented instructional design, media and programming team who work with industry-leading clients to apply today's learning technologies to consistently deliver solutions on-time and on-budget, while also developing practical, cutting-edge solutions for tomorrow to propel their training programs to the next-level.

    Prior to leading CraneMorley, Thom served as Vice President of Program Services for a leading media company developing new business concepts.

    His university experience includes starting a center for the production and first-to-market satellite delivery of educational programs. This led to his creation of a business plan for narrowcast programming and his being hired by this leading media company.

    Troy Segale

    As Director of Instructional Design, Troy leads CraneMorley’s effort with SoCalGas to transform its traditional training curriculum into our client’s vision for competency-based, individualized instruction.

    Prior to that, he led a large-scale product launch and training effort for DirecTV’s new commercial e-commerce entertainment system while it was in the roll-out process to premium hotels nationwide.

    Approaching each project with an objective and logical perspective, he is able to help shape each product to be the most effective for its respective audience or purpose. Troy employs a varied skill set that includes technical writing, instructional design, visual design, and sound design.

    Troy earned a B.A. in English Rhetoric and Composition and a certificate in Technical and Professional Communication from California State University, Long Beach.
